Over the past few years, as I have been involved in small group book studies, I have been presented more than once with the question of dreams. Not the dreams we experience when we sleep, but rather the dreams we hold in our heart of hearts.

For a long time, I was baffled, for I felt I did not have any big, God-given dreams to consider. Why was that? Could it be because I was already living out two very important and long-standing dreams of mine, one to teach and the other to be a mom? Or was it because I endeavour to hold an “attitude of gratitude” and it seemed almost greedy or ungrateful to be always looking for new dreams when life is so full as it is?

I believe God has gifted each of us in unique ways and desires us to use these gifts to work alongside Him to help others. I have come to understand that one of my strongest spiritual gifts is that of offering encouragement. Also, as long as I can remember, I have loved working with words. As soon as I asked God to reveal a new dream for me, He put these two things together.

Well, now I have this dream and it won’t let me be. It does not involve huge gestures, expensive price tags or travel to far-off places. I simply want to encourage others through the written word. It’s not complicated, and I think I’ve been doing this in small and personal ways for years on an individual basis. The difference is now I’m putting my thoughts and reflections together in an organized way and sharing them more widely. I am realizing that this whole dream thing is exciting but also intimidating.

I hope that at some point, something you read here might lift your spirits and provide a bit of encouragement, comfort or hope. This is my dream.
