About
I learned many lessons observing birds at my grandparents' window. I discovered that while blue jays are flashy, they are also bossy. I noticed how subtle beauty can be, like the deep purple head on a plain black grackle.
I quickly developed a favourite. The chickadee seems friendly and trusting, using my still hand as a dinner plate. It’s quick flutter is a joyful movement and the cocking of its head seems to convey sincere interest. Now, decades later, I set up to work on this blog, at a window in my own home, where chickadees often visit in the tree outside.
I have found joy in writing since my youth. I have written freestyle poetry, songs of love from an expanding heart, silly songs for young daughters, and more recently, reflections connected to my faith journey. I have been known to write high in the branches of a willow, swaying gently in a hammock, in fields and on my lap in a comfy chair. As is often the case with any artistic endeavour, inspiration comes at random times, in many forms. Then lies the work of crafting these ideas, these mental pictures, into something fluent and succinct. It is a process I love!
