Our family camping trips are not complete until my husband makes that simple statement at one of our evening campfires. There is something cozy about spending time around a warm blaze after a day of fresh air activities. We tend to be more open, more relaxed in our conversations as the day winds down at the fire.
A campfire is the image that came to mind when I read a short phrase from Psalm 25:14. “The Lord confides in those who fear him….” I have long understood that the Lord instructs me, that He is my guide. But this word CONFIDES, well, that was new for me.
I imagine Jesus and His disciples gathered close around the fire. The evening meal has been served and tidied away. The exhaustion from addressing crowds all day is soothed by this time of calm reflection. A slight chill prompts a shift closer to the heat. Jesus and his friends are talking softly. Jesus patiently explains parables that elude their understanding. He shares serious information about what lies ahead. He seeks their support. He is confiding in them.
I picture myself in the circle of faces. The warmth of His companionship stirs me. I am encouraged by the fellowship of the other humble hearts. How intimate...how very, very sweet. Wow! To think of the Lord confiding in me!
Pass the hot cocoa. I’m here for a while!

This is beautiful imagery! It makes me warm without the fire.
