Who Are You With?

Are you a people watcher? I love to observe people when I get the chance; each person’s unique stride, love birds young and not-so-young, uninhibited children. In fact, sometimes these observations provide inspiration (see “Sole-Mates” in the poetry section, for example).
If you were to attend a social event (remember those?!) with a close friend or your spouse, would observers there easily guess your relationship? As they watch you settling in, would your connection to one another be apparent in your physical proximity? Would they sense your closeness as you circulate, a comfortable familiarity lending confidence? Would anyone notice you wink as a guest inadvertently references a private joke in the course of conversation? When introducing your partner, would your words and tone reflect respect and admiration?
I know, so many questions!!
I believe whole-heartedly that faith is more than belief; it is about relationship. As such, I am challenged to consider the same kind of questions in my faith journey. Yep, more questions!!
As I navigate each day, do others see something of my Maker in me?
Do my words and actions honour Him?
Does my attitude reveal the time I spend with Him?
Do I radiate confidence as I stay close?
I recognize relationships are living and evolving entities. Sometimes they feel strong and unquestionable and the link between parties obvious. Other times, they may not be nearly as easy to spot as we would like. I believe my faith relationship is no exception in this regard. Since perfection is not a realistic expectation this side of heaven, my simple aspiration is to grow in connection with my Lord day by day.
Seriously, how great would it be for a people-watcher to observe me and say,
“Oh! She’s with Him!”?
